There are over 70,000 species of algae in the world. Some are magnificent whole foods such as Chlorella Pyrenoidosa. The Healthy Protocol, LLC's Chlorella is this very particular strain of Chlorella. It is a green algae, one of the oldest foods on the planet. Fossils exist of Chlorella Pyrenoidosa that are over 4 billion years old. Chlorella is extremely high in vitamins and minerals. The human body is perfectly capable of healing itself if it is provided with the proper internal environment and necessary vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients it needs. This is important because magnesium is essential for the heart to function properly. Every time our heart beats, it is utilizing magnesium to do so. Chlorophyll is effective against anemia and stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body. It also helps carry oxygen around the body and to the brain. Chlorella contains enzymes such as chlorophyllase and pepsin, which are digestive enzymes. Enzymes perform a plethora of functions in the body. In fact, you can not even blink without the presence of enzymes. Chlorella has many different types of enzymes that our bodies need. Chlorella is comprised of a fibrous, indigestible outer shell (20%) and its inner nutrients(80%). Chlorella is a green algae. The name Chlorella is derived from two Latin words meaning 'leaf' (green) and 'small', referring to the unusually high content of chlorophyll (the highest of any known plant) which gives Chlorella its characteristic deep emerald green color. The method of cultivation serves to ensure the purity which is much easier to guarantee within a controlled environment than by taking "pot-luck" in a natural lake where some blue-green algae is grown and where water quality, pH, bacteria, and competing algae are variable, unpredictable and often toxic. Cyranobacterial algae such as Anabaina and AFA found in Klamath Lake are toxic regardless of whether they are in a polluted source or a pristine environment. Most producers use a "continuous-harvest" method drawing quantities of raw algae from the growing ponds as required. This method is certainly economically efficient, but it also presents a very real risk of breeding competing toxic organisms and bacteria.

There are various methods of separating the Chlorella cells from the carrier water. The cheapest and most common is to use flocculating chemicals that cause liquids to separate into individual layers. Chlorella producers using this method do not list the residual toxic chemicals in the nutritional contents on their labels!

In the manufacturing of our Chlorella, a proprietary method is used to separate the outer cell wall from the nutrient rich inside.  This is the most advanced and pure method of cracking the cell wall.

Even the largest and most popular brands do not use this special method. They use a slurry bead method. While the chlorella is still in a liquid state, it is run through millions of glass beads, crushing the chlorella. There are several problems with this method. First, the friction of the tumbling glass beads causes heat, which is a known destroyer of the vital enzymes. Secondly, the glass beads contain heavy metals that are absorbed by the chlorella during this process.
